Oneday was originally an iOS mobile app that allowed users to easily create greeting card style videos (e.g. Happy birthday, Merry Christmas) with interesting theme songs and music then share with their friends and family.
But when it failed to gain traction after over a year of heavy marketing effort, they decided to pivot the business model – allow grandmas and grandpas at retirement homes to share their life story videos with their children.
In 2016, I was brought in as a consultant to help them turn this stand-alone mobile app with no content management system into an enterprise platform that could be white-labeled and licensed to senior living communities.
Initial pivot was completed in just 3 months with 2 people product team. Oneday was able to license the new product to 300+ senior living communities across the country and completed the Series A funding round within a year.
In 2020, I was brought back in to revamp the mobile app and CMS to accommodate the new use cases for 5,000+ and growing senior living communities they now have on the platform.
See below for the use cases we addressed with the new design.
We learned that our senior living home clients, not only use the app to create life story videos of their senior residents, but also create sales videos to attract new prospective residents.
To accommodate such use case, we added a conditional user path that displays different video types you can create based on the role of the admin using the app.

Community managers are responsible for creating life story videos for each resident, sharing them with the resident’s family members, and interacting with the family members when they leave comments on the videos.
Community managers needed a way to quickly access the list of residents and see various activities happening on each resident’s profile.

Now with over 5,000 senior living communities, admins needed a better global view and control over the communities on the CMS:
See the overall performance of multiple communities at a glance
Create new communities
Create new admins with access to different set of features based on their job types (e.g. Community manager, Sales rep)
Assign an admin to one community or multiple communities

Admins needed a more efficient way to manage video templates:
Distribute a video template to multiple communities across multiple accounts at once
Edit a template and apply the changes globally to all variations of the template being used by various communities
View all templates or filter the templates by account

Oneday pivoted a failing video greeting card app with $0 profit into an enterprise platform with 5,000+ senior living communities and $1M month-over-month revenue.
